At Meta, I helped shape the look and feel of Horizon Workrooms, the flagship VR collaboration app for Oculus. I designed immersive environments and modular assets that brought warmth, focus, and presence to virtual workspaces, crafting serene landscapes, reskin systems, and customisation tools to support user identity and concentration. Collaborating closely with design and engineering, I bridged visual storytelling with technical execution to deliver a seamless and impactful user experience.

I designed the skybox exterior for Horizon Workrooms to feel calm, inspiring, and just grounded enough to keep you focused. After exploring everything from remote wilderness to coastal cliffs, we landed on the Pacific Northwest, stunning, but not so wild it felt like a retreat. I placed the virtual office among a scattered tech campus and carefully framed every window view so each seat had something iconic to look at. A central bridge became the hero piece, with little scenes dotted around to bring the world to life. Ocean Quigley later picked up the baton and brought it beautifully across the finish line.

I helped design the in-room video chat screens that let non-VR users join meetings inside Horizon Workrooms, giving remote teammates a seat at the virtual table. Working closely with designers and engineers, I developed the look and feel of the video presence system, ensuring it felt natural and integrated within the space. I also created motion tests to explore how the screens should behave when idle and how they should activate, aiming for a functional yet polished appearance. While much of the early research is under NDA, the final result brought a seamless bridge between VR and traditional video calls.

I developed a series of reskins for Horizon Workrooms, giving the virtual space fresh, new looks while maintaining the original geometry. This allowed for easy customisation and a vibrant, updated feel without changing the core layout of the room.
